The Shoals

Over the years, with the continued influx of people from Toronto and surrounding area, Kilbear has become too "busy" for us and of late, we've been traveling approximately 1000 kms to The Shoals - a provincial park located right in the heart of Algoma County on Highway 17-between Wawa and Chapleau.  The Shoals is a quasi-wilderness park with no amenities except vault toilets, but excellent fishing and the most incredible clean water. While there are only 44 sites, they are large and private and half of them are located on the waterfront. I recall one year we arrived on a Sunday and we didn't see another human being until Thursday!  Because it is located so close to Chapleau, residents only have to travel 45 minutes to the park and often come out in the evening, or spend the weekend. The park is only open from June 1st to Labour Day weekend.
